With Polina Shepherd

Choir groups and individual singers from all parts of Europe and beyond are invited to form a Yiddish choir as part of Yiddish Summer Weimar. Come and sing with an option of performing in a choral concert at the end of the weekend. Led by Polina Skovoroda Shepherd (Kazan, Tatarstan / Brighton, UK), an internationally renowned Yiddish choir leader, composer and performer, the workshop is open to all singers who can read music or are able to learn by ear.

The workshop is dedicated to the specifics of Yiddish singing and covers musical language, history, cultural context, and style. We will discuss what makes a choir sound Yiddish. How can a Yiddish song arrangement be different from other Jewish choral repertoire? How traditional can a Yiddish choir be? How do we make it sound rich and modern and embellish it with krekhtsn?

We will cover aspects of Yiddish choir music ranging from traditional SATB arrangements to fully improvised material.

You can register for either one or two days. If you have questions about the programme or if your not sure if this is the right workshop for you, please write to Polina Shepherd: polina_shepherd@yahoo.co.uk
