Dea Szücs (Hungary/Germany; violin)

was born in 1976 in Hungary, began early with music, learning solfeggio and the violin with equal intensity and winning national competitions in both subjects. She studied as a young talent further in Budapest’s Franz Liszt Academy of Music, and after graduating from high school, continued her studies in Toronto (Canada) with the legendary Lorand Fenyves.

Chamber music has played an important role in her life from the beginning. She played in string quartets, studied and performed great works such as Messiaen: Quartour pour la Fin du Temps. In Budapest, she worked with György Kurtág and played the national premiere of his solo works as a 17-year-old. In Toronto, baroque performance practice and new music also became part of her artistic repertoire. She won first prize in the Concerto Competition twice, and performed many times as a soloist with the Orchestra of the Glenn Gould Professional School.

In Berlin, she continued her concert examination studies, during which time she played in various orchestras such as the Munich Klangverwaltung Orchestra and chamber orchestras such as the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Ensemble Oriol Potsdam, Miron quartet and later the Berlin-Budapest Quartet.

Dea Szücs lives in Berlin, where she has participated in numerous exciting projects since 2000 as a member of the soloist ensemble Kaleidoskop. She also teaches and is Prímás of the Hungarian folk band Durrbanda.

Chamber music, folk music, improvisation and collaboration with other artists are currently at the center of her musical life.
