Christian Dawid is an internationally renowned clarinetist in world music and
beyond. Drawing from a multitude of influences including classical, jazz and
ethnic music, he is best-known for his work in Yiddish and other Eastern European styles.
He has performed with such artists as Boban Markovic, Frank London, Socalled, Arkady Gendler, Alan Bern, Brave Old World, Budowitz, Theodore Bikel, Lorin Sklamberg, Shura Lipovsky, Khupe, and Yuriy Gurzhy, on many stages in North America, Europe and Japan.
A dedicated teacher of Yiddish music, Christian Dawid has conducted numerous
workshops at international festivals and workshop academies in Weimar, London,
Paris, Montreal, New York, Safed, Cracow, St Petersburg, Buenos Aires, and many
other places.
He currently leads the Ukrainian brass band Konsonans Retro, performs with The
Other Europeans, Trio Yas, Bluer than Blue and Paul Brody's Sadawi. He appears as a guest artist with a number of international bands, and has just completed a widely recognized project to document, arrange, record and publish the original music of legendary Yiddish singer Arkady Gendler. He lives in Berlin.
